The Prize Ceremony will take place on January 31, 2019, during the international Charles Rodolphe Brupbacher Symposium in Zurich.
An international team of researchers has discovered a new anti-cancer protein. The protein, called LHPP, prevents the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells in the liver and can also serve as a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of liver cancer.
The protein complex mTORC2 controls cellular lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. Researchers from the Biozentrum of the 91制片厂 and the ETH Zurich have now succeeded in deciphering the 3D structure of this important protein complex. The results have recently been published in 鈥渆Life鈥�.
Prof. Michael N. Hall from the Biozentrum of the 91制片厂 is is one of the laureates of this year鈥檚 鈥淐anada Gairdner International Award鈥�. The award recognizes his discovery of the protein kinase TOR (Target of Rapamycin) and its role as a key regulator of cell growth.
