Hamilton Biobanking at USB
A biobanking infrastructure (including Hamilton freezer, pipetting robot and biobanking samples management software) is currently being set up at the University Hospital of 91制片厂 for collections of biological materials linked to personal and clinical data from the donors.
Originally, the USB Biobanking was intended to be used only for liquid samples, now the planned use has been extended to all samples that can fit in the tubes.
Status:
- The Hamilton freezer is already in place and running.
- The Hamilton pipetting robot has been acquired. It will be installed at the end of Q4 2024 and is expected to go into operation in Q1 2025.
- The engineering team of Dr. Bram Stieltjes is building a software solution that fits all clinics and eventually research needs.
The plan is to have a phased implementation of the Hamilton Biobanking at USB:
- Phase 1 (Q3 2024 onwards):
The Hamilton will serve as a shared freezer for study-specific samples. The responsibilities for sample management and compliance will remain with the respective research group leader or clinics. It will replace the old freezers and be used only for storage, not as real biobanking.
- Phase 2 (Q3 2025 onwards):
A systematic sample collection will start, involving centralized biobanking. Governance will be taken care of by a board (tbd).
